What skills did you practice in your team building exercises that will be helpful for your team when working on the dig? (hint: it's not taping straws, dropping golf balls, or hitting balloons. Think deeper. What practices will not be helpful in getting the job done? What are your plans on working together to accomplish what no other group of high school students get to do? (We know you are the only group in the southeast doing this) What is your individual role? What will be your individual responsibilities?

While doing the team building exercises yesterday, I learned that my team works best while all working together as a team, not as 9 individuals all trying to be the leader. We learned to listen to everyone's ideas and pull what worked from each one of them to complete the project in the best possible way. (Even though our golf ball catcher was a total and complete failure!) We learned to divide up the tasks to get the job done in time, and to adapt our work as we went when we saw that something wasn't working. All of these things will be important when we are working on the Dig, especially about adapting and learning as we go since this is a new experience for all of us. As the Storyteller #2 ,I have to respond to these blog assignments everyday, record our progress, and provide quotes from team members, all of which can be used in our final papers we complete about the dig. Since my blog assignments will be graded for the whole team, I need to make sure that I keep up to date with all assignments and represent the thoughts of all team members. I also have to hold lunchtime meetings and record thoughts and quotes from all team members.
ReplyDeleteWhat skills did I learn? Well, one really stood out above all others. I could tell as soon as the 2nd activity started, Mrs. Sears and Coach Glass were trying to establish teamwork. Getting everyone comfortable with working in that particular group and really establishing the teamwork within the group itself. Big tasks(such as our dig) have bigger and better outcomes when certain tasks are assigned to pick it apart in several ways. Such as our group roles. I am a Warrior. I my group, I keep tools/equipment organized, fill/return the ice cooler, clean trash, etc. What practices will not be helpful? Trying to fulfill all roles at once. That's why everyone is separated, everyone has their own important task/tasks and they need to do just them!!
ReplyDeleteThat all members must work together to reach a common goal. Your idea can be the idea to reach the goal. We must communicate with each for the project to be a success. The practices that won't help get the job done is selfishness. We are put in a group because one person couldn't get the job done with all the many assignments that must be completed. To do things the other groups haven't done is really be deep in the study of our dig (learning what all could have and have happened here). Our individual roles are to be aware and to listen to instructions for our certain part. My part will be to help clean up and to always know that our spots are cleaned.
ReplyDeleteThe team building exercises showed me our group succeeds when we all collaborate. Even though we each will have individual roles during the dig, we have to work together to accomplish the main task. Something that will not be helpful during the dig is, refusing to listen to the ideas of the other group members. Everyone has the ability to contribute to the group. We plan to work together and make sure that everyone is involved. I am a Warrior in my group. My responsibilities are organizing equipment, filling the cooler the morning and returning it to the lunchroom in the afternoon.

ReplyDeleteSome skills that we practiced in our team building that will be useful for the dig will be our teamwork and how we put our ideas together to complete a task. One thing that will not be helpful during the dig is selfishness and refusing to listen to others and their ideas, every person brings something different to the group and it’s important that they be included. My plan is that we get together as a group, find and learn about some cool artifacts while having fun. My role in the group is Artifact Recorder and I am suppose to bag, tag, and clean the artifacts. I can help with tools and manage the supply table. I also make sure the photographer gets pictures of the artifacts.
ReplyDeleteTeam work was the number one skill we learned yesterday with the activities we did, we will not get anything done if we don't work together on this dig. The thing that will not help us will be not listening to one another and getting along is a big part of this. My group is awesome though and we will rock this dig! My role in the group is Sacred Mother and I will help keep things clean and organized and I will also help where ever I am needed.

ReplyDeleteThe teamwork activity showed me that everybody has to do their part or the job will not get done as quick. My role in the group is Storytellor 1 I will be getting to capture my whole groups memories on camera. If everybody tried doing everybody else role then are group wouldn't ever get anything done.
ReplyDeleteDuring our team building exercises we learned that it takes everyone's ideas and input to really make a good team. The exercises taught us that it takes a lot of people to reach a single goal instead of one person trying to reach a large goal. While on the dig we need to work our own individual jobs to the best of our abilities in order to come together in the end to make something great; much like how it took everyone to keep the balloons in the air at once. If there is anything our team needs to work on, I believe it is learning to listen to each other. Specifically me. I am the leader of our clan and I did not do a very good job of listening to everyone's ideas during the team building exercise. I was focused on the go, go, go more than the thought it took to fully complete the activity.
ReplyDeleteThe team work activity showed me many things about working as a team. My team learned the importance of working together in any kind of situation. I think the most important thing we learned was how quickly we can get things done if we work together! One thing that won't help on the dig is the lack of communication. Another thing is making sure everyone's voice or opinion is heard. My role is the medicine women! I'm gonna keep up with all medicine needed and making sure everyone is taken care of in case of an injury.
ReplyDeleteI wasn't in class yesterday due to the focus trip. But I do think working as a team together everyone achieves more. One thing that will not be helpful is wanting to be independent worker. Everyone's opinion should be heard and as a team come up with a great solution to make the task easier. My role in the group is Storyteller 1. I will get to enjoy (doing something that I love) taking pictures and also helping out on other roles as needed.
ReplyDeleteThe Dig is rapidly approaching and all of us must begin our preparation. Recently we were separated into groups and tasked with team building activities. These activities sole purpose being to make us act as a overall unit rather than several individuals. Obviously when you don't work with your group, you ruin the system which is in place. “If you’re not with us, you’re against us” Our group will be the most well prepared and efficient group because of our use of resources and our will to get our jobs done with a smile on our faces. My role is Headwoman . I will be keeping everyone on task, be the spokesperson for the group when VIP visitors come by (give the tour and use binder which Mrs.Sears and I are working on). I am also responsible for attending brief morning meeting with the archaeologist for day’s instructions and presiding over lunch meetings to assist the storyteller in the group’s blog post for the day in order to help my group unit. Mrs.Sears has assigned my group members a position and I am trusting them to succeed at said position.
ReplyDeleteIn the team building exercises, my group and I practiced working together as equals to complete a task, collaborate all our ideas together to form a good plan, and doing all we can to accomplish our goal; all of these things being useful to us on the dig. However, there were some moments when one of us would only try to go with their idea, which will not be useful on our dig. The upcoming dig is an honor, my group will work together to uncover some of the history that surrounds us. My individual role in the group is headsman. My responsibility is to keep the group on task, be the spokesperson of the group, attend morning meetings for instructions, hold lunch meetings, and help the storytellers with the blog post.
ReplyDeleteAll of the team work activities we did showed us how to put all of our minds together and be as one. They help teach us how to pull pieces from each person idea and combine them as one. I think this'll help because it'll teach us how to cooperate and be accepting of each other's thoughts. I think our group will be able to work together and accomplish all of the task because we all listen to each other. My role for the dig is to be the sacred mother and make sure that everything is well organized and in place ready for the rest of my clan.
ReplyDeleteThe team building exercises we did helped us decide the skills we would need to get the full dig experience. My group found out that we communicated and planned things very well. However, one thing we needed to work on was our execution. The golf ball catcher just did not work. I hope that I will be able to help my team by using my experience in the outdoors and any other way I can to have a great dig.
ReplyDeleteThe team bonding and team work not only helped each other to get along but it showed us how to put our heads together and think together and also put our ideas together and compromise. Working together teaches how important it is to come together with different ideas and different people but can all make one decision, work together and all be happy at the end. The dig will also help with team work because we get to work together with more important things than just drawing and painting. It's always fun but there's also a time to be serious.
ReplyDeleteI was not there for team building exercises, but I have done similar things and it really teaches you how to work together. This will help my clan on the dig by playing our roles and joining together to make a great team and make this dig successful! My role is the sacred mother and artifact recorder. As the sacred mother I am responsible for keeping everything organized for my clan and as an artifact recorder it is my job to bag and tag each artifact.
ReplyDeleteIn the team building activities we participated in today we had to communicate a lot. We will need to communicate during our dig to make sure we are staying on task and not stepping on each others toes. We plan on working together and doing the best we can do to make sure we accomplish the most possible. For our dig group i will be storyteller 1 which takes pictures of the process.
ReplyDeleteThe team building exercises helped me realize that everything thing works better when you work as a team. I've learned through sports that if you want to succeed you have to work together as a team and not an individual effort. It will still be important that I do my individual part as a warrior which is responsible for organization, filling water coolers, and anything else I can help anyone with; but I have to keep the idea that "teamwork makes the dreamwork. " it will be fun to work with other classes and and have help with different things. I can't wait to see how well this "team" performs.
ReplyDeleteThe team building activity showed me not only can these boost people's communication skills, but they can also help them build good relationships with one another. Also, this is important because it will make it easier to work together on the dig. My role is the medicine woman.
ReplyDeleteThis activity help me build trust with team. Showing which people will work the hardest and the best, with whatever they have. My role in the group is one of the warriors.
ReplyDeleteI learned that i need to work with my people in my group as a team. Communication is key and that is my favorite part, talking out any problems and making sure that everyone is doing their part. I will do my individual part as best that i can which is the warrior and to help everyone out.
ReplyDeleteLike Colby said, this really helped with the trust with my team. It showed we had more resourcefulness when we put our heads together.
ReplyDeleteMy role is the Storyteller 2

ReplyDeleteMy role is the Storyteller 2, I have the responsibility of the blogs and the notebooks
DeleteYou need to work together as a team not individual people. If you don't work together you will not be as successful was you will if you work together.I learned that you can't just argue about different ways to do it and to work together as a group. My role in the dig is the Artifact Recorder and Medicine Woman.
